Victoria Nuland has recently been promoted to #2 in the State Department. So I wouldn't discount the possibility of perishing in nuclear war before climate change gets us all so quickly ;)
I have a hard time believing any undersecretary, whomever she may be, will matter much. And if the Gulf Stream gets significantly altered in the next decade, we're done. I guess we'll see.
“We estimate a collapse of the AMOC [Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation] to occur around mid-century under the current scenario of future emissions.” Under the Ditlevens’ scenario, the current, which transports water around the Atlantic basin and plays a key role in regulating everything from the rate of sea level rise on the East Coast to Europe’s average temperatures, is already beginning to slow and will likely stop entirely sometime 2025 and 2095. The change would probably be irreversible and is like to trigger increased storms, flooding and dramatic sea level rise. The socioeconomic consequences (not to mention the disastrous impacts on marine life) would be catastrophic for tens of millions of people.
Yes, exactly. Honestly, I have no idea what's going to happen, but it's taking an awfully long time to do anything about climate change. I feel like I've lived my whole life under the threat of nuclear war, so maybe I'm just more inured to it.
Here's a good interview with Kai Bird. He was interviewed by Chris Hedges on his RT's show On Contact that was closed after RT was banned shortly after the start of SMO in Ukraine: https://youtu.be/Lp5rjZS0-cU
Started reading it some time ago but got diverted to other book, which is often the case. This is what happens after you read twitter feeds for years - short attention span, too easily distracted ;)

Gulf Stream slow down thing looks scary but we've got some time still to prepare for colonizing Mars. Elon to the rescue!:

Oppenheimer the movie is based on Kai Bird's book "American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer"
Yes, and I've heard it's a pretty reasonable adaptation. Might be worth a read, though. Let me know if you've read it and what you think.

Good interview. I think I'm going to have to get the book, though I imagine it's a heavy read.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
More seriously, the reality distortion field that always surrounds Elon isn't working so well any more.
