Hi everybody,
In the newsletter that came out Sunday, I had a whole section about the 1978 Warren Beatty movie Heaven Can Wait.
In the movie, Joe Pendleton (Warren Beatty) seemingly dies and winds up at a way station on his way to heaven, but objects that he’s not supposed to be there.
Mr. Jordan (James Mason), the manager of the station, says, “The likelihood of one individual being right increases in direct proportion to the intensity with which others are trying to prove him wrong.”
Words to live by, even now. Mr Jordan then checks for the actual date and time Joe Pendleton is supposed to arrive, and the answer is: March 20, 2025, at 10:17 AM. In case you hadn’t noticed, that’s tomorrow morning. In honor of reaching that date, I suggested in the newsletter that we have a watch party to view the movie together. I included a poll to pick the day, and pretty much everybody selected Thursday.
The shared environment I’ve chosen is called Hyperbeam Watch Party, which I chose mostly because it requires zero installation on your end. To join us, just click the link:
I think the only restriction is you have to agree that you are over 13 years old. I assume most of my readers will satisfy that.
I briefly debated starting the movie at 10:17 AM, or in such a way that we reached the quoted line above at 10:17 AM, but hey, I have to work tomorrow, too. My plan therefore is to enter the room by 7 PM Eastern Daylight Time tomorrow (March 20, of course), and start the movie some time between then and 7:30 PM. The site allows us to chat as we go, or even use a video call if we’re so inclined. On my end, I just have to open a browser, log into Amazon Prime Video, select the movie, and hit play. The rest of the entertainment is up to us. :)
I hope to see at least some of you there! It really is a fantastic movie, filled with snappy writing and excellent performances, combining both comedy, a romantic love story, and the NFL, such as it was back in 1978.
